Rollingdale Winery near Westbank is one of two Okanagan wineries with organic certification for its grapes and its winery (Summerhill is the other one). Steve and Kirsty Dale, who opened this winery in 2006, have a considerable history with organic horticulture, including four years as consultants in Switzerland.
The winery produces a full range of table wines. However, the Dales have developed a bit of speciality with their icewines. A Rollingdale Pinot Gris icewine got a perfect score last year during a dessert wine fair in Spain.
On the winery’s website, the Dales suggest this wine has flavours of creamy strawberry custard. I had made similar notes (before looking at their tasting notes), commenting on the aromas and flavours of strawberries and apples. The delicate backbone of minerals gives the wine a good structure. The wine is very well balanced to finish tangy and refreshing, with just the right degree of sweetness. Like most icewines, this is best with something savoury.
