Karnail Singh Sidhu, one of the Okanagan’s top organic grape growers, opened Kalala last year just outside Westbank. The winery’s name comes from Karnail’s hometown in the Punjab. Kalala means miracle place. Legend has it that a wolf and a lamb lived together peacefully here. Kalala’s labels feature a lamb nuzzling a wolf.
That is an apt image for this friendly wine with an inviting aroma and a mouth-filling texture. It is a boldly fruit-driven wine, tasting of ripe pears, apples and citrus fruits, with a touch of spice on the dry finish. I could happily nuzzle up to a few more bottles of this.
