Stag’s Hollow winemaker Dwight Sick has begun hosting virtual wine tastings with tasters on Twitter. “Never drink alone again,” was one comment in seven pages of sometimes serious, sometimes flippant, commentary. Twitter has its fans; if this is another way of getting the word out, go for it.
This elegant red was tasted before dinner when it really demands red meat or other protein. Aged 20 months in French oak, the wine begins with alluring aromas of plums, blackberries, vanilla and mocha, elements that are echoed in the flavours. The tannins are ripe but firm enough indicate that this wine has another three to five years of development. The vibrant berry flavours are backed by good acidity. The finish goes on a lot longer than your average tweet and, frankly, the wine is a lot more satisfying.
