Every wine that Rob and Tammy Van Westen release has a label name that begins with a V. The current line includes Viognier, Vino Grigio, Vivacious and Voluptuous. On the drawing board are two more – Vrankenstein (a Cabernet Franc usually picked on Halloween) and Vivre la Vie. The technique might seem a little strained – except that Rob Van Westen is a good wine grower and a disarming fellow. His fans, it might be said, continue to make a V-line to the wines.

This is a delicious and finessed red. It begins with an appealing aroma plum, blackberry and vanilla, leading to flavours of plum, red currant and cherries. The big ripe and round tannins give this wine a rich (voluptuous?) texture on the palate. The wine is drinking well now but also will develop further complexity in the bottle over the next five years.
