Robin Ridge MerlotRobin Ridge is one of the emerging stars in the Similkameen Valley, with its compact winery and tasting room on Middle Bench Road, not far from Keremeos and the Grist Mill. Tim and Caroline Cottrill started planting a former hayfield in 1998. They began releasing wines from the 2006 vintage. Tim mentored with a consultant initially but he is doing a solid job on his own.

He seems to be developing a house style for wines that are big, full of flavour and not shy in the alcohol that comes with the Similkameen’s summer heat.  You can taste the style in two current releases, starting with 2008 Chardonnay ($18.90), a rich, buttery wine with a dollop of fruit on the mid-palate and with a bit of warmth on the finish. 88 points
