This flavour-bomb wine is a tribute to the blender’s art. Sumac Ridge winemaker Mark Wendenburg has put together seven varietals, most of them aromatic, some of the barrel-fermented and aged in oak for seven months. The result is a wine with intense layers of taste and complexity. The wine has great harmony; none of individual varietals sticks out.
It begins with appealing tropical aromas of ripe cantaloupe and muskmelon. On the palate, there are tastes of papaya, mango, ripe grapefruit with spicy highlights from the subtle oak. This is a dry table wine but the lush fruit flavours leave an impression of sweetness on the palate. The finish is very long.
There are not too many whites in British Columbia quite like this, and certainly none at this price. 90
